Turquoise Every Day

They always say "turquoise Tuesday," but what about Thursdays? As far as I am concerned when it comes to Santa Fe-style, every day is turquoise day. One might think that's a bit much but it all depends on how you mix and match. Go subtle on some days, bold on others.

Today I am going bold with turquoise sweater AND jewelry.

There are lots of turquoise options in my shop whether it is real turquoise stones or turquoise-colored beads you can find plenty with which to accessorize.

Necklaces, bracelets, earrings, prayer beads; take your pick.

Vintage Faux Fall Suede

If you keep your eyes open and regularly go to rummage sales and such you can always find a great deal but you can also find a treasure now and then.

While attending a church rummage sale over the summer, I picked up these amazing eighties vintage faux suede pants in the perfect color of rust for the incredible price of $1, that's right, one dollar and they had rarely been worn and were in mint condition.

Add to that a vintage silk scarf that I picked up at the Marketplace here in Silver City for a mere eight dollars, then add an everyday tank.

The finishing touch with some of mine and my daughter's jewelry designs for an inexpensive, unique and amazing fall look. Throw on a matching sweater when the weather cools down.

Confessions of a Stylist and Fall Leopard Look

Confessions of a stylist, I also shop for my mannequin. From a yard sale last weekend, she got the top for .50 and the skirt (brand new) for .50. Can't beat that for a new outfit.

Adding jewelry, one of my chokers and and African print scarf and we put together this "leopard look."

.

For a great makeup look to go with it, try colors similar to these. A nice smokey eye with glittery gold and bronze. Add a gold lipstick for the finishing touch.

Olive and Turquoise Gorgeous Combination

Yesterday I designed and created olive and gold-toned necklaces. They turned out beautiful but I was thinking well I just rarely wear olive because I wear so much turquoise.

Then this morning, I saw a blouse in the closet that my daughter gave me with, you guessed it, turquoise mixed with olive. Who'da thought? Viola! Amazing gorgeous combination!

I immediately did a photo shoot for my shop and blog using different lighting and backgrounds, really wanting to bring out that olive in the mix. Here you will see the photos and the look in this article.

This is just one more way to use the transitional colors of gold, olive, deep greens that come into play between summer and fall while keeping the southwest colors and style. I am so excited and loving this combination! I always thought I had to sacrifice my olive colors for my turquoise, no more!

If you can't find a shirt that has olive and turquoise print (which could be tricky) just do it with layers of olive and turquoise. blouses, tanks, skirts, dress, whatever, the solid colors will work as well and will be easy to put together to achieve the same combo. It could also be done with scarves in the olive and/or turquoise tones, which would be an inexpensive way to create this look and color combination.

The shirt is a thrift store find. I got the brand new dress locally for $4 with the tag still on it. I made the belt from re-purposing a broken vintage concho belt, and the jewelry is my creation except my anniversary cross which was a gift from my husband. So little money has to be spent to put something like this together. Hit your own closet, hit your friends' closets, go to yard sales, check the thrift stores and you will be surprised what you can easily put together.

Olive necklace available from Designs by Cheryl B.

You do not have to break the bank to get this look. You probably already have a few nice turquoise pieces, if not, I have both the olive and various real or imitation turquoise available in my shop.

Once you have your outfit put together, finish this look with the coordinating makeup colors to really make the overall scheme "flow and jump": eyes in goldish brown with hints of olive and turquoise mixed.

I started with a brown contouring base. Add highlighter to lid center and brow bone. Shade, darken or highlight and conntour as necessary per your features, coloring and age.

Smudge brown liner to line eyes.

Then frame beneath the eyes from the outer center of the pupil to the outer eye and sweep up with BOTH a blue or turquoise AND olive green eye shadow over your liner. Re-touch the liner after completing this step.

Add GOLD lipstick for the finishing touch.

Working on Fall Designs

My favorite time of year is rolling around, and I am working on creating new autumn designs in beautiful fall colors with a hint of the southwest including earthy gemstones, feathers, rich brownish suede and leathers.

Here is a sneak-peek at one of the pieces I have finished, the Beaded Spirit Necklace in brown tones (also available in turquoise and ice blue) for fall. Created in rich autumn colors of dark brown, amber, bronze and gold, this piece will add exceptional Santa Fe-style to your wardrobe. It is lightweight with feather tassel.

Turquoise Spirit Necklace

When I'm not writing, editing or publishing, I am styling and creating. My new Turquoise Spirit Necklace, available in my shop. This is one of my newest pieces, the Turquoise Spirit Necklace.

This was a really fun piece to make and I love the combination of leather and turquoise! What could be better than that for us Santa Fe-style lovers? Real turquoise nuggets with genuine leather make this the perfect look for Santa Fe, cowgirls, lovers of native style and boho-dreamers. Create many looks with this single unique necklace. Really lets your wild woman through.

It layers really well with other similar pieces. I love the layered look and the additional textures that the layered look provides, especially in combining the leather with jewelry.

Soul Sisters Spirit Necklaces

Inspired by a recent conversation with a lifelong friend yesterday, I designed and created what I call, Soul-Sisters Spirit Necklaces. Feathers, beads, and a concho all on leather strands and they look amazing.

There is a strand of leather with one feather each to represent each sister. In the center, there are two strands of leather together in one bead with one feather to represent each sister and the soul-unity they share.

In the photos it is paired with a fringed rust-colored faux leather skirt and my handmade vintage fringed faux leather collar. The perfect accompaniment is also one of my vintage horse tack bracelets

This necklace adds a stunning native or southwest appeal to your outfit and it is fun to experiment with different outfits for multiple looks such as casual with jeans or a simple leather skirt. I am wearing mine with skinny jeans, a plain black tank top and a light, long, rust-colored crocheted sweater and it looks amazing! I am in love with this look! It is my favorite look that I have put together thus far.

Soul-Sisters Spirit Necklaces, one for you, one for your soul sister.

Evening Sunset Reflection

As the sky begins to turn golden and the New Mexico sun makes its way to set behind the western mountains, the cool breeze is finally so refreshing after such a hot, high desert day, that I just sit in a relaxed puddle of myself. The magic is almost visible on the air and I take it all in. The beauty of New Mexico never ceases to amaze me.

It has been a productive and enlightening day and I have taken the first step in turning my life more toward my dreams by redirecting and tightening my focus on my new direction with STYLE Santa Fe.

May you enjoy the blessed magic of this evening, wherever you may be. Add a bit of Santa Fe no matter where you are; burn some sage, enjoy a coffee or hot tea, put on some Santana and watch that same big sun setting on your day, refreshing your gypsy soul for a brighter tomorrow.

Evening blessings from STYLE Santa Fe!

New Intro - Fueling Your Passions with STYLE Santa Fe

STYLE Santa Fe is fashion but not just fashion, it is your own style. It is beauty but both inner and outer beauty. It is inspiration and self-improvement, It is the dreaming of, and the achieving of, personal dreams, it is a state of mind and it is a lifestyle, all with a touch of Santa Fe.

Until now, I have always had such trouble reconciling my love of fashion and the southwest with my spiritual work  (of which I have done a lot and authored many books) and I am forever split between the two, but then I remembered how in fashion college I thought we were going to jump right in to modeling and makeup and all, and instead we spent however long, six weeks maybe, on improving ourselves from the inside; self improvement, inner beauty, confidence, self esteem, etc., and I realized that is the way to combine the two, like our head-mistress did. Because self-improvement, inner improvement is spiritual; it is the same thing with a different name. It is the foundation on which to build the outer expression. There is no point in being beautiful on the outside if one is not beautiful on the inside. One cannot be their best if one is not beautiful, self-loving and aligned on the inside.

One of the many colorful doors on Santa Fe's Canyon Road.
Who can resist walking through a door like that???
A few years ago, I did an entire photographic series on
the Doors of Canyon Road and I will share these on occasion.
Through my own alignment, I am drawn to the land of the southwest; the mountains, the pines, the smells, the cultural blends, the architecture, the eclectic clothing that makes up Santa Fe-style, the jewelry, the views, the vistas, the lifestyle of the mountainous southwest, the dry arid climate, the art, the food, the magic and the heightened spiritual awareness that comes from such an enchanted land whether in its spiritual melting pot from new-agers to Catholicism, or from the simplicity of just standing in a sacred place. These create my passions which are fueled from my inner alignment and that is what anyone needs to fully experience life and to live their dreams.

One of my vintage leather fringe jackets
Fashionably speaking I have always been drawn to ethnic clothing. I remember when we were teenagers, my best friend saying that her style was classic and mine was ethnic. I didn’t even know what she meant but I was sitting there in a wrap skirt from India, a turban-like headband with a long scarf and moccasin boots from Taos. Many years later, I realized that all these spirited fashions, this eclectic taste, made up Santa Fe-style, the western culture included because that’s where the fringe and leather and camisoles and boots come in and those are my favorite things of it all.

None of my friends really share my passion for clothes, style, makeup, accessories or jewelry or for the the Southwest or New Mexico or Santa Fe. And that’s OK, they’re teachers and nurses and business people who have, let’s face it, more important things on their mind than whether this necklace goes with that dress or when is their next trip to Santa Fe. But me, I can’t help it, I guess I am a diva, always have been, always will be. Spoiled princess, pretty in pink, leather or lace, I just love it all. And though they’re not into it, I am just betting that you are! I am betting that you get just as passionate about a fringed bag or a piece of turquoise as I do! That’s why we’re here! And I look forward to having a community of like-minded new friends who are just as passionate about these things, so I am putting it out there where you are, flying with your free-spirit on the bo-ho, cowgirl cyber-highway to Santa Fe, wherever you may actually live.

There are a lot of influences for me here at STYLE Santa Fe in addition to those I have already mentioned. I like the idea that Bobbi Jeen Olson shares of promoting the Western lifestyle through film/fashion/faith and inspiration. I also like the idea I saw online of a page called, From the Ranch to the Runway. I love what so many are doing to promote these passions and that is what I am going to do with STYLE Santa Fe, in my own way, with information from which we can each benefit to improve our style, to achieve our personal dreams and to be our best.

Me at the overlook on the road to Los Alamos, just northwest of Santa Fe.
STYLE Santa Fe is fashion but not just fashion, it is your own style. It is beauty but both inner and outer beauty. It is inspiration and self-improvement, It is the dreaming of, and the achieving of, personal dreams, it is a state of mind and it is a lifestyle. There may also be a few enchiladas or a day-trip to Abiquiu or thereabouts. STYLE Santa Fe is your passion, a state-of-mind, a lifestyle, a dream, and the great looks and attitude with which to achieve it all.

So you will find that STYLE Santa Fe is evolving some in order to meet my own personal needs and desires as well as to extend these to you. I will be sharing these passions in which I am sure that you will delight as well for if you are here then you too share the love of these things. I will speak more candidly while sharing secrets, tips and more.

Thanks for being here, thanks for joining me. Let's fuel our passions, dress up, and look and feel our best so that we can all put our best boot forward, inside and out in Santa Fe-style.
