Adding Santa Fe-Style with Scarves and Jewelry

Many days find me piddling with achieving different looks and how you can easily put them together to add a little Santa Fe-style to your outfit.

These two combos are created with the same top, a rust colored turtleneck poncho and changing out the scarves and jewelry.

In the first look, I added multi-layered strands of festive yet earthy-toned beads in rusts, browns and gold, then added a copper and turquoise southwestern cross and necklace. I finished the look off with a gold sparkly scarf.

In the second look, I simply switched out the scarf for a more colorful scarf and more sparkly jewelry which could work more for an evening look.

You do not have to find exact matches but can get a general idea from which to work as you put together your own unique look working with these colors or even with other desert tones. I personally would wear this look with jeans and boots but then I wear everything with jeans and boots!

The point is to experiment and have fun!

All I Want for Christmas is Red and Turquoise

For my own Santa Fe-style this season, I will be wearing a red lace top with a red spaghetti-strap camisole and lots of turquoise. Red and green may be the traditional look but if you want Santa Fe-style go for the red and turquoise.

This is an quick and easy look to pull together if you already have the jewelry.

If not, hit your favorite retailer or re-seller for red and turquoise this season. Add jeans or slacks or a denim skirt and of course, red or tirquoise boots. I have both so my biggest problem will be which boots to wear.

Santa Fe Christmas Magic

It's no big secret, I live for Santa Fe! I love it all, any time of year; the art, the architecture, the mountains in the backdrop, the view across to the twinkling lights of Los Alamos, the food and the restaurants, the shopping and the smells in the air. But nothing is as magical as Santa Fe at Christmas.

Filmed in Santa Fe by my son for our media company, is a beautiful video of Santa Fe at Christmastime capturing the pure magic and delights of the City Different as it is decked out in all its holiday splendor. If you love Santa Fe as much as I do, you will love this holiday tour.

Happy holidays from STYLE Santa Fe! Wishing you a Santa Fe Christmas and all the magic therein.

Quick Tips for Earthy Festive Holiday Lips

One or two simple changes for a quick makeup fix can take you from the office right out on to the town enhancing your own holiday cheer.

Whether you are stepping out in style this holiday season or just wanting to add a little extra glow to a friendly gathering or evening out and about, here are a couple of quick easy tips put an added touch of color, pop and festive glow to your lips.

Most of the time, we line our lips with the same color of liner as is our lipstick or we go a shade darker than the lipstick. For a holiday burst with an earthy flair, mix it up.

Try a deep red liner with a sparkly brown lipstick or visa versa like a dark brown lip liner with a Christmas red lip color. Adds depth and gives an amazing look. You may need to experiment a little before the big night to find the right tomes to match together with your own tones as well as your outfit. Mix it up for a fun and fancy Christmas holiday look.

You can also mix lipstick colors together after lining to come up with a unique and festive shade. Try a pink over a cranberry or a cranberry over a dark brown.

If you're not into the earth Santa Fe tones, this can also be done with pinks and peaches, mauves and pinks, or any other favorite colors.

For an extra bit of sparkle, add a touch of gold liner. Gold lip liners are popular and available right now. Also add a swash of gold or pearl gloss onto the center of the bottom lip.

Vintage Leather Horse-Tack Cuffs

Whoa, giddy-up. Vintage leather horse tack makes amazing jewelry cuffs for the gal who wants to add a little leather to her lace.

Coming from a horse background and having grown up with horses, I was delighted when my husband came in with some vintage tack saying he thought maybe I could make something of it. I sure could! It was such a joy to work with the rough yet softened leather, knowing that a horse had been the wearer and I can now make it into pieces to share. Horse medicine is good medicine.

I made cuffs and I also made a choker that I love that really gives an outfit that Santa Fe-style.

These plain leather cuffs, fashioned from vintage horse tack are comfortable and stylish with a rough style and smooth feel. Easy and fun to wear with a beaded gliding leather fastener. Available with a brown or turquoise leather fastener.

2 Easy Pieces that will add a Little Santa Fe-Style to Your Look

It is almost amazing how the right pieces can suddenly add up to a fresh, new and completely killer look.

Let’s take your basic tank top, boots and jeans (which we all have and love). They’re comfy and make for an easy look but let’s face it, we love that Santa Fe-style and we’re looking for a little more; we’re looking for that pizzazz.

So what is it going to take to easily and quickly turn this look into a look that goes straight to way-out-west class? Two pieces. That’s it, that’s all you need. The right top and the right piece of jewelry and you are set to go.

This top (a beautiful gift to me from someone who knows me well) has all the makings. It is loose to go over a tank, it has the earthy rusty colors of the desert southwest in cool designs and best of all the yoke on the back is lined with fringe!

Secondly, for the final pop, add a piece of large chunky turquoise jewelry (just like you will find in my very own line, Designs by Cheryl B.) and your transformation to Santa Fe-style is complete.
